MANCHESTER: Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has dismissed speculation about his position at the club, insisting he expects to be given time to turn the team’s fortunes around after a difficult start to the season.
United have lost three of their six matches in all competitions this season, including a surprise exit from the League Cup after squandering a 2-0 lead before losing to Brighton & Hove Albion at home last Wednesday.
That situation comes ahead of Sunday’s Premier League trip to Fulham, as United look to end a run of inconsistent results.
“I think it will take longer than one or two games to see results change,” Carrick said.
The 45-year-old manager insists he does not want to be distracted by questions about his future, instead wanting to focus on the demands of his job at Old Trafford.
“I know this club, I know my role and I know what is expected here in terms of playing at a certain level. As for the future and how long I will be here, thinking about it is absurd,” he said.
Carrick also admitted responsibility for United’s poor start, but refused to point the finger at anyone.
“It’s my responsibility and I have no problem with it. This is not a matter of finding fault. Blame me, no problem, but that’s not the question,” he said.
Instead, Carrick wants his team to focus on finding a way out of the situation.
“It’s about finding solutions. It’s a collective effort. It depends on what we focus on. I know where we want to go and we want to get there quickly,” he said.
